State of Grace

State of Grace is a short animated film documenting an artistic rendition of a transformative dream. It’s based on my experience confronting illness. Recently, when I reached a state of despair when diagnosed with an illness, and felt loss, the only thing that enabled me to gather my strength was a vivid dream. In the dream I saw my family and ancestors around me in a circle, chanting for my healing, it filled me with tenderness for all who had loved me.
The film involves a moment when time stands still and one is filled with profound feelings, feelings that we might think of as fleeting. Gratitude and hope are rarely discussed in relationship to illness, so my purpose was to honor that, and to share that with other people, especially those confronting illness.

State of Grace screened in LA VIDA ES CORTOS/LIFE IS SHORTS FESTIVAL 2021, produced by TEATRX - A Latinx Theatre Company, November 26-November 28, 2021. La Vida Es Cortos / Life Is Shorts is a unique festival that presents short plays and short films to celebrate and showcase the Latinx community, its artists, and its stories. In its third year, the festival included dance theatre performances and short dance films to create a Latinx multidisciplinary experience never seen before.
