Cinema Tropical, TropiChat 20: A conversation and Q&A with Lourdes Portillo, Wednesday, May 5th, 4pm (PT)/7pm (ET)

New York-based Cinema Tropical, founded by Carlos A Gutiérrez and Monika Wagenberg, is a non-profit media arts organization that has become a leading presenter of Latin American cinema in the United States.  Founded in 2001 with the mission of distributing, programming and promoting what was to become the biggest boom of Latin American cinema in decades, Cinema Tropical brought U.S. audiences some of the first screenings of films such as Amores Perros and Y Tu Mamá También.

Through a diversity of programs and initiatives, Cinema Tropical is thriving as a dynamic and groundbreaking organization experimenting in the creation of better and more effective strategies for the distribution and exhibition of foreign cinema in this country.

As part of the festivities of the 20th anniversary of Cinema Tropical, the organization presents “TropiChat 20,” a special series of twenty weekly conversations with key Latin American and U.S. Latinx directors and film professionals, including Lourdes Portillo. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Lourdes’ film Señorita Extraviada, Cinema Tropical founder Carlos Gutierrez interviewed Lourdes Portillo about her life and work.
